#1 is…
I really enjoy learning about prayer from leaders of generations past. There's a depth and maturity in their walk with the Lord that is so refreshing and challenging! This classic is no different. Less about getting what you want and more about the duty, discipline, and delight of prayer!
One of my all-time favorite "basic" books about the faith. We did a whole series based on this book for our church last year called "Sunday School." This is meat and potatoes (what Christians believe) stuff. Nothing fancy. Just incredibly solid and faith building. Great for building a new-believer's course from!
Quite possibly the finest book on ecclesiology I've ever read from a pastoral perspective. Stott wrote it near the end of his life and ministry and it's incredibly rich. If you doubt the necessity and value of the local church your faith will be renewed after reading this!
The chapter on confession and community changed my walk forever. A great treatise on the power of Christian community. Excellent book!
I grew up listening to Keith Green and read this book as a teenager. It stirred my passion for the Lord and for living a radical life of devotion to Him! The passion and struggle of Keith's life are told so well.
We don't wrestle against flesh and blood. THIS book always gets me back into that frame of mind. To realize and operate in the truth that we are fighting a spiritual battle! And it's clever, funny, and insightful to boot!
