Leadership Secrets Of Elite Warriors

As a leader I'm always looking for inspiration and ideas about how to improve and grow.

And one of the most inspirational exercises I've found is studying the elite special forces.

Now, obviously being a church leader is NOT the same thing as being a Seal, Ranger, or Delta.

I'm not delusional! haha

But there are lessons to be learned that we can apply.

Here's a short one - focused on the Navy Seals.

What makes these forces so elite?

Two elements stick out to me:

1) Training

2) Team

First, they go through some of the world's most vigorous and exhaustive training.

Their bodies are pushed to the limit and beyond...in order to stress test them for the rigors of combat.

Many recruits phase out before completing the training.

But those that pass are forged in the fire.

Confident they can face whatever is thrown at them.

They're trained to fight and survive in the air, on the land, and in the sea.

Diving, scuba, parachute training, hand to hand and weapons training...you name it...they do it.

Ready for whatever comes.

You can apply this lesson to your own leadership development efforts.

We've found that the more we challenge our people to rise...the more they do.

Be careful that your leadership development processes don't create spiritual wimps.

Rather, call people to embrace the cross as true disciples of Jesus.

Call them to embrace what it really means to serve, give, and love like Jesus.

Just like the SEALs...the one's that stick will become an elite kingdom force.

Second, they are built into a team.

Taught to trust and depend on their brothers in arms.

And the truly elite warriors understand better than anyone how much your team matters.

When you're in the fire you need people you can count on.

People that will challenge and encourage you to be your best.

And there's something about seeing other people take on the same challenge.

It's a powerful factor.

So, how can you leverage that at your church?

One way is to form teams of trained leaders that work together and keep each other accountable.

It's a simple but effective strategy.

Training and Team are two elements that elite performers recognize as important.

And those are two of the key elements we purposefully included in our UpLevel Leader program.
