Why Churches Are Momentum Machines

I had lunch with a dear friend that attends another church in my area.

He said, “Our church is struggling.”

That makes me sad to hear.

Because we’re not…and it’s not because we’re better, more spiritual, or anything like that.

It all comes down to ONE thing.

And it’s the ONE thing that I always look for when I coach pastors and church leaders.

It’s the ONE thing that allows you to measure the current and future growth/health of a church.

Momentum.

Churches are momentum machines.

If your church vision and culture are healthy and growing the momentum increases and becomes an unstoppable snowball!

If the vision and culture are lacking…the church loses momentum and things start to break down.

But churches are always moving with momentum.

Either forward or backward.

The idea of a “stagnant” church is just plain wrong.

If you’re stagnant you’re moving backwards…perhaps slowly…but backwards nonetheless!

So you’re GROWING or you’re GOING (outta’ business).

So how can YOU as a leader begin to create positive momentum for your church?

It comes down to the three tools of a leader.

1) Vision

2) Culture

3) Relationship

Every healthy/growing church has clear and compelling vision.

Every healthy/growing church has positive culture.

Every healthy/growing church creates and sustains authentic relationships.

Churches grow when more people come and stay than come and go.

As pastors and leaders we’re in the people business!

Connecting people to Jesus and to each other.

You MUST invite people to SEE what you see…

What does Jesus want your church to look like? Your neighborhood? Your city? Your state? Your nation?

Show em’ a picture of heaven come to earth…that’s VISION.

Culture is what we communicate, celebrate, and allow.

Are you creating and guarding kingdom culture in your church? Does it feel like heaven inside? If not, why not?

Relationships.

People come to church for many reasons but they primarily stay because of relationships they discover.

How are you programming that in your church? Is it surface friendly but only skin-deep? Are you raising up and releasing disciple makers?
